Missions Trip 2010

Give Today and Deliver a Miracle to Someone in Need

IAOMAI ee-ah’-om-ahee
meaning to heal and cure.

Dear family and friends,
As many of you may know, my good friend and fellow photographer, Jay Runquist and I have the opportunity to serve in Guatemala this year as photographers on a life-changing medical outreach with Helps International, Iaomai Medical Missionary, and a small group from The Rock Church. It’s your support and prayers that will make the trip possible and change the lives of the Mayan people in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Our team will be traveling October 2nd–13th to work alongside the local government to offer medical relief to their community of 60,000 indigenous people who have very limited access to healthcare.

When I was first presented with this trip, I had many reservations. I didn’t know how I, a photographer, would be needed to serve the Lord. I kept coming up with reasons that I shouldn’t go, but something kept pulling me back to the one reason I should —
God loves people.

It’s easy to pray for far off places and people, but loving those you live and work with is a challenge. Lately I’ve been trying to see my whole life as one big missions trip, not just this upcoming trip. It’s been awesome to see the way God uses this new approach, transforming everything from the way I treat people in line at the grocery store to how I allow traffic to affect my mood. But now I know it’s time to take the things I’ve learned to a new longitude and latitude. When it comes down to it, Jesus laid out a pretty simple message for us, didn’t he? Love God, Love Others and Love Ourselves.

I’m excited about the opportunity and experience that lie ahead. As you can imagine, a trip like this requires great financial support. In order for me to serve on this missions trip, I need to raise $1800 to cover travel, food, and insurance expenses and an additional $3450 for equipment rental by August 31st. If you can support me in any amount, small or large, I would be very grateful. More importantly, I also need your prayer support. Prayer is the fuel that will allow us to be successful following God’s will in ministry through medical treatments in Guatemala.
